About OHCIA

The Oregon Health Care Interpreters Association was founded in 2010 to advance the Health Care Interpreter profession and improve health outcomes for deaf and limited English proficiency (LEP) patients in Oregon. OHCIA cultivates, supports, and advocates for the development of highly skilled health care interpreters (HCIs) to improve quality of care and health outcomes for people with limited English proficiency and for patients who speak through American Sign Language across Oregon. We provide training courses, accreditation/certification support, connect HCIs to employment opportunities, and host conferences that offer education, networking opportunities, and elevate awareness and appreciation for high quality health care interpretation. We also pursue systemic change by advocating for reforms and regulations that create more equitable professional environments for HCIs and establish higher standards of care for LEP patients. Through these efforts over the last years, OHCIA has established itself as a key partner in Oregon’s system of coordinated health care.

Oregon Health Care Interpreters Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, and the work we do is made possible by your tax-deductible donations.
