Enrica J Ardemagni, Ph.D.

Enrica J. Ardemagni holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin with a focus on Medieval Literature and Historical Linguistics and an M.A. and B.A. in Spanish from the University of Arkansas.  Currently, she is a Professor Emerita at Indiana University Indianapolis (IU-I) where she taught all levels of language and literature as well as Spanish for the Professions and Specific Purposes (SPSP-business, legal, medical). She developed over fifteen courses in translation and translation studies and interpreting and served as Director of the Undergraduate and Graduate Certificates in Translation Studies and Director of Graduate Studies. She has published and presented over sixty scholarly articles and presentations and she is a published literary translator. During her tenure at IU-I, she received sixteen teaching awards and a Congressional Recognition for her community work in education.

Professor Ardemagni is one of the founding members and served three terms as President of the Midwest Association of Translators and Interpreters and served two terms as the Administrator of the American Translators Association (ATA) Literary Division and the ATA Educational Division. She served on the board of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care for fourteen years, and as NCIHC President for six years. Currently, she serves on two NCIHC committees as well as being on the Stakeholder Assembly group of the SAFE-AI Task Force: Stakeholders Advocating for Fair and Ethical AI in Interpreting. After retirement, she has had the opportunity to continue teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in translation, interpreting, and medical Spanish, and she writes curriculum for interpreting studies for universities. She holds a Certificate in Online Teaching, she is an Indiana and Arkansas Supreme Court Certified Interpreter and a Certified Healthcare Interpreter™-Spanish. She has been named a Lifetime Member of the Midwest Association of Translators and Interpreters and the American Translators Association.
